An excellent article by Mark Sisson, the author of The Primal Blueprint. I remember what a friend told me years and years ago about his personal philosophy about dieting. He ate what he wanted to eat. He figured that if he was craving something, his body probably needed it. Granted, he was in his early 20's at the time and didn't have any obvious health issues, but still, there's more wisdom in that statement than first appears. My take away from this article is that our cravings probably are signals that we are actually deficient in something, and we had better get whatever that is. The problem is a) the genetically unnatural food available to us in the 21st century, b) the sheer abundance of food available to us, and c) phycological issues getting in the way of properly interpreting those signals. This is coming from someone, though, that's fortunate enough to not have very many cravings, so take this with a spoonful of salt, as it were.
