Spent part of the day setting up my Mom’s new iMac today – one of the new M1 iMacs in blue. It’s a very impressive piece of engineering, and beautiful to boot. Her old machine is almost exactly 4 years old, and even after reinstalling macOS fresh it was still a dog, so likely hardware based issues. So… I surprised her with a replacement after I saw the announcements a month ago.
After the data migration was all complete, after both the old and new iMacs were rebooted, I sent her a video of a Word launch test. New iMac: about 1/2 a second. Old iMac: 30 seconds. Yeah, I think it was time.
